If they offer you a job at a school that has an "immediate" opening, I would be inclined to ask for the names and emails of one or two teachers that can tell you about the school and you can ask those teachers about the school and teacher timetables. If you do not like their answers, do not take the job!
Have you checked out all of the sites I mentioned to get a job in Asia? If not, look at the earlier blogs. Are you still without a job? Do not despair. Hiring goes in cycles and at most prestigious international schools the year goes from September to June and they hire sometime the January or February before. There are a series of workplace fairs I will talk about another time but by now most of the hiring is wrapped up. If there are jobs that advertise for a teacher immediately there is one of two reasons. Either there is something dramatically wrong with the school and/or teacher working conditions and you want to avoid these schools at all costs or secondly the teacher might have had legitimate reasons for leaving such as a family emergency back home. If they offer you a job at a school that has an "immediate" opening, I would be inclined to ask for the names and emails of one or two teachers that can tell you about the school and you can ask those teachers about the school and teacher timetables. If you do not like their answers, do not take the job! If you fancy South America or Central America, a lot of schools start in January so you can get jobs right now if you are quick about it! A lot of people have bought my book and written to me about the stories, but no one has commented on these work related tips I am giving although a lot of readers look at the site. If you are finding these tips helpful please write and tell me so I will be encouraged to continue.
