Visa...multiple entry????

The first time I worked in Bangkok I really did not understand what visas were all about. Essentially they are a control the government imposes to ensure their own citizens get jobs first. However, if a school wants a "native English speaker" it is very hard to find one in Thailand or Vietnam as examples,  so if you are from the west, you get the job ( providing the country will issue you with a visa)

Your school will organize a working visa for you. In Ho Chi Minh City it took a few months for them to organize but other countries quite a bit faster. Therefore, if you want to leave Vietnam, for example and go to Cambodia, just a few hours away, you have to get a multiple entry visa so that you can go out of the country and return as often as you like. In Asia, the countries are very close together and you will often go to another country for the week-end. The flights are incredibly cheap on Air Asia and other discount carriers so you have no problem getting around.

Remember...if they ask you what kind of visa you want, pay the extra money and get MULTIPLE ENTRY

It's Friday. The kids are out of school, time for you to go and explore
Another tip is to buy a passport from your own country with extra pages. I did not even know these existed but they do! Your passport will fill up fast because of all of the visas you will have to get if you teach in Asia. For some reason, they usually insist on cash to buy the visa so take American money with you and the amount depends on your home country. Since I am Canadian, Canadians , for some strange reason, have to pay the most of any country to get into Laos...and in American currency!
